Arran High School - and its associated schools group - operates an alternative holiday pattern to the rest of North Ayrshire schools. In part, this is to reflect the island's economy, based primarily on tourism.  The main holiday this affects is October break whereby Arran schools have a two week break compared to one week on the mainland. 

However, in order to make up for this additional time, Arran schools do not benefit from a number of local holidays that the mainland schools do, scattered over the course of the academic year.
